On June 18-19, the 2024 international workshop on Experimental and Environmental Economics, co-organized by Xiamen University (China), Durham University (UK), Wuhan University (China), and Chapman University (USA), was held at Durham University. Prof. Yinggang Zhou, Dean of the School of Economics and Wang Yannan Institute for Studies in Economics (WISE), Xiamen University, and Associate Prof. Sen Geng and Associate Prof. Zhi Li of the College of Economics, Xiamen University, participated in the workshop and reported their latest research results. This is the first time the College of Economics, Xiamen University has co-sponsored an international academic conference abroad after the Covid-19 pandemic.
During the two-day workshop, researchers from Xiamen University, Durham University, Wuhan University, Chapman University, as well as Copenhagen Business School and Newcastle University delivered 18 presentations in seven sessions and had lively discussions on experimental and environmental economics topics, including trust, risk, auctions, financial markets, carbon markets, climate negotiations and green investments. Among them, Prof. Yinggang Zhou, Associate Prof. Sen Geng, Associate Prof. Zhi Li, and Prof. Lijia Wei, a 2012 PhD graduate of WISE and the head of the Department of Mathematical Economics and Mathematical Finance of Wuhan University, presented papers entitled “How Connected are the Chinese Carbon Multimarkets? A Network Approach of Price and Volume Spillovers”, “The Errors Behind Being Persuaded”, “A Wind Tunnel Test of Alternative Emissions Trading Schemes” and “Overcoming Medical Overuse with AI: An Experimental Investigation” respectively. Several senior professors of Durham University Business School, including Michael Naef, Head of the Department of Economics, Jason Shachat, Co-Director of the Centre for Experimental Methods and Behavioural Research (EMBR), and Alejandro Caparrós, Director of the Center for Environmental and Energy Economics, provided valuable comments on the research of the presenters.
During their visit, the delegation from the College of Economics, Xiamen University also had in-depth and fruitful talks and exchanges with representatives of Durham University Business School, including Cathy Cassell, Executive Dean, Olga Epitropaki, Deputy Executive Dean, Jorge Lengler, Associate Dean for Internationalisation, Karena Ji Yan, Associate Dean, Michael Naef, Head of the Department of Economics, and Jason Shachat, Co-Director of EMBR. They explored possibilities in research collaboration and joint student programs.
