The College of Economics, Xiamen University attended the Allied Social Science Associations (ASSA) 2024 Annual Meeting held in San Antonio, the United States from January 4 to 7, 2024 (local time), and held a reception based on the American Economic Association (AEA) platform. The College of Economics, Xiamen University is comprised of the School of Economics (SOE), the Wang Yanan Institute for Studies in Economics (WISE), and the Paula and Gregory Chow Institute for Studies in Economics (Chow Institute), Xiamen University.
The college has always attached great importance to talents and we are one of the few Chinese institutions that held a reception at the ASSA annual meeting this year. The reception attracted nearly 100 scholars, including Nobel Prize Laureate Phillips H. Dybvig, and scholars such as Yonghong An (TAMU), M Carter (UC Davis), Honghui Chen (U. of Central Florida), Alan Guoming Huang (U. of Waterloo), Holly Wang (Purdue), Ping Wang (WUSTL), Yilan Xu (UIUC), Chong K. Yip (CUHK), Tong Yu (U. of Cincinnati), Xiaofei Zhao (Georgetown) and Daiqiang Zhang (SUNY Albany) (listed alphabetically).
Professor Jianpo Xue, associate director of the Chow Institute, gave a detailed introduction to the college. Together with Professor Xiaoyi Han, Associate Professor Zhi Li, and Assistant Professor Kai Li, the college’s Faculty Recruitment Committee members met with scholars from home and abroad to have exchanges on topics such as international cutting-edge frontiers on economics, finance, and statistics research and explored collaboration possibilities, further enhancing the college’s exposure and academic reputation in the international arena.
The ASSA Annual Meeting is one of the world’s largest social science academic conferences, which is a joint effort of the American Economic Association (AEA), the American Finance Association (AFA), the Econometric Society (ES) and over 60 other related societies/associations. As the diverse academic backgrounds of our faculty enrich the intellectual environment of our college, the college embraces continuous improvement in optimizing the quality and structure of our faculty, maintaining a supportive and vibrant environment for international academic exchanges and cooperation.
